Ingredients
- 4 cups water
- 1/4 cup dried hibiscus flowers (Jamaica)
- 1-2 sticks Ceylon cinnamon
- 2 dried bay leaves
- Optional: A keto-friendly sweetener (like allulose, erythritol, or liquid stevia) to balance the natural tartness of the hibiscus.
Instructions
- Boil the Base: In a medium saucepan, bring the 4 cups of water to a rolling boil.
- Add the Aromatics: Add the cinnamon sticks and bay leaves to the boiling water. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let them simmer for about 5 to 10 minutes to deeply extract their warming, earthy flavors.
- Steep the Hibiscus: Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the dried hibiscus flowers. Cover the pot and let everything steep together for 10 to 15 minutes. The liquid will turn a rich, deep crimson red.
- Strain and Sweeten: Strain the tea through a fine-mesh sieve into a pitcher or a large mason jar to remove the flowers and leaves. If you prefer a sweeter tea, stir in your choice of sugar-free sweetener while the liquid is still warm so it dissolves completely.
