Ingredients
-
1.5 lbs ground beef (80/20 or 85/15)
-
2 large bell peppers (mix of green, red, or yellow), sliced into thin strips
-
1 medium yellow onion, sliced into thin half-moons
-
8 oz cremini or white mushrooms, sliced
-
2 cloves garlic, minced
-
1 tbsp olive oil or butter
-
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
-
1 tsp Italian seasoning
-
1 tsp onion powder
-
1/2 tsp garlic powder
-
Salt & black pepper, to taste
-
4 oz cream cheese, softened (optional, for extra creaminess)
-
1.5 to 2 cups Provolone cheese or shredded Mozzarella (slices or shredded)
Instructions
-
Prep the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9x13-inch glass baking dish.
-
Brown the Meat: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Cook until fully browned, breaking it apart with a spoon (about 6–8 minutes). Drain excess grease if desired, stir in the Worcestershire sauce, and transfer the beef to your baking dish.
-
Sauté the Vegetables: In the same skillet, heat the olive oil/butter over medium heat. Add the sliced peppers, onions, and mushrooms. Season with Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Sauté for 5–7 minutes until veggies are tender-crisp and nicely browned.
-
Combine in Casserole:
-
(Optional) Stir softened cream cheese into the warm ground beef in the baking dish until evenly combined.
-
Spread the sautéed vegetables evenly over the beef layer.
-
-
Melt the Cheese: Layer the slices or shredded Provolone/Mozzarella evenly across the top to cover the meat and veggies completely.
-
Bake: Place in the oven for 10–15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden brown around the edges.
-
Serve: Let it rest for 5 minutes before scooping and serving.
Tip: For an extra golden cheese crust, turn the oven to Broil for the last 2 minutes of baking—just keep a close eye on it so it doesn't burn!
